Dear Families,

We are almost at the end of our journey this year! Sadly, our experiment with geodes didn’t work. Instead, we will do other creative artwork with the eggshells to resemble geodes. Thanks for your support and help gathering all the materials. Reading buddies is canceled for the rest of the year as our mentors will be taking on new projects to help us finalize end-of-school tasks. During the summer, CIS hosts a Spanish-camp and if you are interested, contact Naketta Wiley through this email address: nakettawiley@ymail.com.

As the end of school is close, please send back any books, readers, and other materials that your student has borrowed from our classes so we can begin our inventory. We will start sending back notebooks and if your student is a second grader going into third and returns with notebooks that can be salvaged and are still in good use for next year, feel free to reuse them for next year, as we promote recycling and reusing as part of our IB philosophy. Thanks again for your support during 6th exhibition.

Have a terrific weekend!

Dear Families,

We have about 3 more weeks until the end of the school year! Next week will be the last one for Math and Reading buddies as our mentors will take on different tasks the last two weeks of school. We proudly announce that our third graders took action and decided to participate in the Exhibition (5-10-17) by ensuring the school looks its best for all our visitors. Third graders organized groups and shifts for cleaning trash and go to younger and older grade levels classes to let them know they should keep our school nice and neat. Second grade decided to help the third grade class in any of these activities. We encourage our students to keep on being active for their CIS community. Way to go third graders!

Thanks for the egg-shells you have sent for our Science experiment, you can still send some more to ensure everyone has at least one to grow a “geode”. We will be ready to start this experiment next week. It will be performed once a day for two tables, given that it needs hot water and sit overnight for the crystals to grow. We will also need a lot of food coloring – if you have any of these items, please send it with your student so we can start the experiment ASAP.

Have a terrific weekend!

Dear Families,

We started our next and last unit, Sharing our Planet: Rocks and Minerals! You should have received the fridge poster last week and if not, make sure you look in your student’s backpack. We also have a PDF available in our website. For this unit we are going to do a super fun project and we need your help gathering egg-shells. We will be making geodes as part of a Science experiment. Please rinse them before sending them and it will be more useful if the egg-shells are cut length-wise.

Our 3rd graders did great for PARCC! Thanks for your support. We are sure the test scores will show how hard they have worked. We will keep you posted about the last round on MAPS, and again, thanks for helping us with this transitions.

No School Tomorrow!

Dear Families,

Welcome back!  We have only eight weeks of school left, and still much to do! We will be wrapping up our unit, How We Organize Ourselves: Adaptations, next Friday.  Our final unit, Sharing our Planet: Rocks and Minerals, will begin 4/10/17.  We’ll send a fridge poster home next Friday.  In the meantime, if you’ve observed your student making any connections to our current unit, please send us a note (or photos!).  This kind of information helps us refine our instruction!

PARCC Begins: THIRD GRADE ONLY!  3rd graders will be taking part one and two of their Math PARCC assessment on Monday and Tuesday.  They will be tested 20 questions, so it shouldn’t be too stressful.  We’re excited for them to have the chance to show off how much they’ve learned.  Please make sure your student is well-rested and has a nutritious lunch (they will test in the afternoon).  If you’d like to donate snacks to our test takers, you can bring prepackaged, healthy snacks (fruits and vegetables are good, but should be pre-sliced and bagged) to Ms. Sheley any morning of testing.  Thanks!

English Spelling: This week, students who demonstrated proficiency on our last round of tests get the week off (getting a 3)!  Students who scored a 1 or a 2 will need to study and will be tested again next week.

Craft Supplies: If you have odds and ends of craft supplies lying around at home, we’d love to take them off your hands!  Students will be building their original creatures next week.  Cardboard tubes, fabric scraps, yarn, feathers, etc. would all be appreciated.

No School: There is no school Friday, April 14th

Have a terrific weekend!

Dear Families,

Just a short note this week.  We’d like to thank all the families who came out to Science Night last night – it was a ton of fun!  We were very impressed by how deeply students understood their experiments, and by how clearly they were able to communicate their findings.  Thanks also to parents who helped conduct experiments at home.  The results were outstanding.
Spelling words in English and Spanish went home this week – hard copy in English, as always.  Please study over the break.
Tissues – thanks to allergy season, we’re running a bit low on tissues again.  We’d appreciate any donations of tissue boxes we can get.  Thank you!
Shoeboxes – if your child has not already brought in a shoebox-sized box, please be keeping an eye out for one during the break. We will need them when we return.
Reading and Math Practice – please keep up reading and math facts practice over the break.  There are several math activities posted on our google site for online practice ( https://sites.google.com/a/corralesis.org/cis2-3/ ), but flash cards work, too!  Third grade will be starting PARCC the week after we return from break, and we want to make sure everyone stays sharp!
Have a safe and happy Spring Break, and we’ll see you back at CIS on Monday, March 27th!

Dear Families,

Just a quick note this week!
Please remember that CIS’s Science Fair and Family Science Night will be taking place on March 16th, at 5:00.  2nd and 3rd grade students will be presenting in their classrooms, for judges, between 5pm and 6pm (although it may not take the entire hour).  Explora will be in the MPR from 6:00 to present fun, hands-on activities for families.
Please make sure that your student is on-track with their science experiment.  Their green science packets also need to be turned in, with their presentation board, on 3/16.  You can also refer to the science project timeline on our class website, https://sites.google.com/a/corralesis.org/cis2-3/  Mrs. Trail and I ran out of Science trifold boards, but will get a few more during the weekend for 1$.
As always, feel free to contact us (sooner rather than later, please!) if you have any questions about science fair for your child. We are also in need of toilet paper rolls for music as the kids will make paper mache maracas. Thanks for your support and generosity. Lastly, we have MAPS Language testing schedule for Tuesday 14th, 2017. Please ensure you let your student know how important this is for our school to design instruction and come up with ways to support for our students.
Only one more week until Spring Break!  With all their hard work, your students will have well and truly earned a break!
Have a great weekend!

Dear Families,

We just started our next unit on Adaptations. Please refer to our Unit poster for more information about the inquiry process. In the next few weeks, please get to the final steps of the Science fair as it is coming up soon. All students took their completed booklets and they are ready to start their project. Mrs. Trail and I have Science boards that you can purchase for a dollar if it saves you time. We are posting new information about Math and reading practice in the resources area of this website (https://sites.google.com/a/corralesis.org/cis2-3/home). Please take a look as it is extra practice that your student can benefit from.

Dear Families,

Thanks for your support during PT conferences! We appreciate you keeping in touch when there are concerns and when there is also lots of cheering regarding your student’s academics. If you did not have a conference with us, please check your student’s backpack for a hard copy of his/her report card, MAPS testing results from before the winter break, and two Istation literacy reports (English and Spanish Reading Monitor Assessments). We are approaching the end of our unit and please, if you have Student Action to share with us, let us know by writing it and sending back the fridge poster, shooting us an email, or sending us a picture. Students get rewarded for that as it is a very important piece of our learning.

We are very close to finish the writing, the research, and the procedure of our science experiments and for that, the booklets might be ready to send home next Tuesday 21 for your student to start the actual experiment. Please stay tuned as our Science Fair will take place in about a month.

There is no school on Monday, February 20th, 2017. Have a great long weekend!

Dear Families,

What an exciting couple of weeks!  We’ve had traveling museum exhibits to enhance our unit about New Mexico, field trips and guest speakers.  We’re looking forward to another guest speaker next week to talk to the class about the culture of the Pueblo people, as well as students from Ms. Tiger’ s MYP students coming to teach us more about El Camino Real.

Field Trip:  Thanks for your help, and thanks to the students for their flexibility with their lunch times!  We had a couple of unexpected changes, but overall the trip to the Albuquerque Museum and Casa San Ysidro was great!  Docents at both locations complimented the students on how much background knowledge they brought to the two museums.

Because our time was limited at both locations, it might be fun to visit the Albuquerque Museum again and explore the exhibits in more detail.  The Albuquerque Museum has free admission on Sunday mornings!

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences: It’s that time again!   We are happy to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress so far this year.  If you have NOT received an email from us requesting that you make an appointment, your Spring Conference is optional.  We will be sending progress reports home on 2/17/16, and you may also contact us via email any time if you have questions.

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4baeae29a7f49-spring

Please be on time for your conferences, and we will do our best to stay on schedule.  Thank you!

Shoeboxes: Please keep them coming in!  We will begin our projects with them IN CLASS in about a week.

Science Fair: Your students began brainstorming and drafting their questions for their science fair project this week.  They have received a green science fair packet to help them organize their thinking and keep them on track for the March 16th science fair.  We are keeping their packets in class until it’s time for them to begin their experiments at home (February 20th).  Because their final presentation will take place on science fair evening in front of a judge, we will not be accepting late projects.  We also highly recommend that students practice their presentations in front of friends and family prior to the fair.

A NOTE FOR PARENTS:  We understand that your second and third graders are new to the science fair experience, and do not expect perfection.  Please remember – failure is a completely valid outcome for an experiement.  Please encourage your student to remain calm if an experiment doesn’t go quite the way you expected, and remain honest if their hypothesis was not correct.  We’re looking for reflective Junior Scientists who did their best.

Civic Action:  Budget cuts are being considered that could seriously affect our school next year, and we’re encouraging our CIS families to speak to their legislators in Santa Fe about SB 30, a bill which directly impacts funding for Charter schools.  Mr. Tolley sent out an email on Thursday with a possible script to use when contacting your legislator.  It’s due to be discussed in committee on Monday, Februrary 6th, so we need to communicate soon.

Don’t forget, if you live in Albuquerque and in certain districts, you can also vote in the APS and CNM school board elections.  Early voting has already begun, and voting ends February 7th.  See this guide for candidate information.

Student In-Class Work: We’re noticing many students are having difficulty organizing themselves and their time to complete in-class assignments.  We have a lot of flexibility in when and how assignments can be completed, but our expectation IS that students will finish work.  Some students have had to miss recesses or special events to make up work despite having a week of opportunities (including homework time) to make up.  If you see incomplete work coming home with your child, please talk to them about using their classtime more effectively.  We’ll do the same at school.  Thanks!

New CIS Families:  Please check out and bookmark our 2/3rd grade Google Site!  We have many resources to help your students in Spanish, as well as information about our units and large projects (like science fair).  https://sites.google.com/a/corralesis.org/cis2-3/

Also, be sure to check out the Corrales IS site to stay up-to-date on our school-wide calendar!

Dear families,

Thank you so much! We had a great turn up for chaperoning for our field trip next Friday, February 3rd, 2017. Unfortunately the museum only allows us for 6 chaperones and we will be emailing the lucky ones by Monday afternoon. Thanks for your support and understanding.

We will be talking about our third line of inquiry next week and please, take a good look at the list of topics we release for Science Fair in our website. Our students have been looking at those during class and they will need to be prepared when coming up with a question next week. We will keep you posted with updates and materials as we get closer to the date.

Please, keep sending shoe boxes for our NM museum as we only have received a couple. We thank you for the turn up for bulky supplies. Again, your generosity and support is what keeps us moving forward.

Lastly, we want to welcome a couple of new families to our classrooms. We look forward to our field trip and a guest speaker we will have by the end of this week as part of our unit. Thanks again for everything you do.

Have a great weekend!

Dear Families,

Our New Mexico Unit is going great! We started our first line of inquiry: The contributions of Native peoples affect the community. There are a few upcoming events you should be aware in advance. Our Science Fair will take place in about 7 weeks and we will start choosing topics and experiments based on past units starting next week. Talk to your student about this because we will be releasing a list of concepts we have worked on in the past and which the kids can expand on. We won’t allow any MODELS, just experiments! This is training for our students to become proficient on how to use the scientific method to record and look at measurable data. Most of the work will take place in class and we will have an outline of the important dates for you to keep up with results.

It is our second trimester and we are in need of bulky supplies. Please find the sign up sheet (available as a Google doc in the menu to the left on our Google site, here) if you are willing to donate anything.  We’re down to our last five tissues! In addition, please keep an eye out for shoe boxes. We need to collect at least one per kid for our Shoe-box New Mexico Museums.  The shoebox museums will begin construction in about two weeks.

There is also a Field Trip that will take place February 3rd to the Albuquerque Museum and Casa San Ysidro. Permission slips will be going home today, January 20th, and need to be returned by January 27th.  Let us know if you have this date available to chaperone for which you will need to have a background check in place with our school. If you haven’t been fingerprinted, let us know and we can provide you with the paperwork for you to submit at APS.

Welcome back! We started our next unit about New Mexico and we sent the fridge poster home for your student to make better connections. If you didn’t receive one, please look in our website for a copy we have posted. We encourage action in our kids and please send any books or artifacts that will teach us about New Mexico’s history and heritage. In a few weeks, we will also need regular-size shoe boxes for a museum project by the end of the unit. Keep this in mind if you happen to see one.

Next week by Wednesday, we will host the Perfect Attendance Lunch. If your student receives our invitation, please send lunch as if was another regular day. Keep up the good work and let us know any questions. We will see you Tuesday, Jan 17th, 2017.

Have a great long-weekend!

Dear Families,

Your children have worked incredibly hard to complete (or nearly complete) their Tic-Tac-Toe water projects.  We’ve been impressed by their commitment and determination.  While we won’t be able to regularly check email over the break, please let us know if you have any questions about any part of the project and we’ll get back to you before January 4th.
We had a fun Pajama Day today and enjoyed watching ‘Flushed Away’.  During the clean up, one of our classroom stuffed animals was scooped up in the blankets and pillows.  If you happen to find a plush jellyfish in your child’s things, please send it on back.  We will need it for the next unit!
That’s it from Maestra Brewer and I for 2016.  We wish you a safe, joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year.  We’ll see you back Thursday, January 5th!

Dear Families,

It’s almost the end of the semester!  We have a busy week next week, as well as some special events.  Thanks to all the families who have been participating in Book Fair, the Winter Wonderland dance, Shop-N-Stroll, or the yummy bake sales that have happened over the past several weeks.  This kind of active participation sets an awesome example for our kids!

Thursday is ‘No-Uniform’ day (although dress code must still be followed), and Friday is Pajama Day!  Friday is also a half day, so students will be dismissed at 12:30.

Water Project Tic-Tac-Toe:  We will continue to answer questions about student projects in class and provide resources as needed (including Spanish help).  Please let us know before Friday, December 16th, if you have any questions about this project.  Many students have been working on labels and diagrams in Spanish, and will be taking those home to complete.

Wednesday will be an in-class work day for their projects.

Holiday Music Performance: CIS’s Holiday Music Concert is taking place Wednesday, December 14th.  Please see the attached schedule from Ms. Amy for your child’s performance time.  Performers must arrive 30 minutes before their performance time.

Dear Parents,

Thank you for a great week of on-time conferences! We appreciate all the feedback and support you give to our students. What a great community CIS has become!

We started a new unit: How the world works, Water. We sent the fridge poster last Monday November 14th, as well as the report cards. Let us know any questions in case we haven’t addressed it at conference time. We also want to announce that some of our students earned Perfect Attendance and will be having a special time during lunch with his/her teachers next November 30th. The students who earned it have a special invitation in their backpacks for you to know. Please, do not get discouraged, there will be another trimester when your student can earn this special treat by February. Please help us in our effort to make our students more responsible and punctual. Your example is their best teaching model.

Please look on the NEW Spanish Resource page for electronic resources for students to practice and feel confident about their Spanish learning. https://sites.google.com/a/corralesis.org/cis2-3/spanish-resources

Dear Families,

We hope you are enjoying this long weekend! We thank you for your participation during IB night and we continue having exciting outcomes about our Folktales, Myths, and Legends unit. Keep up the good work!

Volunteers Needed: Third grade will be learning about Ukranian folktales and culture, and they still need costumes for International Day.  We are looking for a few parents to help design and make a simple costume for 22 students.  Please contact Mrs. Trail (trailc@corralesis.org) or Amy Hughes (hughesa@corralesis.org) if you can help.

For second grade, we already have two brave parents taking over the custom making, but we still have very little turn up for the $5 dollars we need per student to make it happen. Please send the money within the next week and let us know if you can help us make Japanese umbrellas to complete each custom.

Dear Families,

We have an exciting week coming up!  We have started our Folktales, Myths, and Legends unit, and sent the fridge poster home last Friday.  Students are encouraged to bring in stories from home or libraries to read and share in class.

CIS House Meeting: We will be having a short meeting about our House system before our IB Curriculum Night on Tuesday.  Most of our school events have been planned by house teams, as well as fundraising.  Families who are new to our school with also be able to find out what house their family will belong to.

IB Curriculum Night: Please join us at 5:30 or 6:00 for an informational session about what the IB PYP Curriculum looks like in grades 2 and 3 at CIS.  These sessions will take place in room 115 (Trail’s room).  We are attaching a letter from Gaby Escobedo that provides an excellent overview of the PYP program.

Balloon Fiesta and CIS Balloon Day: Due to our proximity to Balloon Fiesta Park, traffic may affect your driving time/route.  CIS sent home special passes to each family this week (a neon green paper) to be displayed on your dash during the Balloon Fiesta, which will permit you to access the roads around the school should they be temporary closed to through-traffic.  If your family has not received one, please inquire at the front desk.

CIS Balloon Day will be on Wednesday from 6:45am to 9:00am.  Join us in watching the morning ascension from the school grounds, and enjoy a burrito and cocoa!  Please remember – this is an event to enjoy with your children.  There will be no staff available to supervise until 7:30.  You must remain with your child until that time.  At 7:50, students will head inside with their teachers.  From 8:00 – 9:00am we invite families to join us in balloon related activities in the classroom.  Parents are welcome to circulate between their children’s classroom, but we ask that students remain with their own teachers.  After 9:00am, each classroom will resume their normal Wednesday schedule.

Reminder – NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7thOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 10th – FALL BREAK!

Dear Parents,

We come to the end of our unit and we are about to start the next one on Folktales, Myths, and Legends. Please find the fridge poster for our new unit in your student’s backpack and please, review our central idea and lines of inquiry if you have some time during the weekend. Send us back the last fridge poster on Heroes with a few words on how your student showed learning or displayed action. We reward those students and we look forward to see if they want to apply their knowledge to take further into our school, our community, or our country.

There is a correction about the dates for IB night/curriculum night: Tuesday, October 4th, 2016. Please join us to find out great information about our IB program and how we teach our units. In addition, for Wednesday, October 5th 2016 is balloon day and some of our houses will be hosting and fundraising with burritos, muffins and other great goodies before watching the mass ascension. That day we will also have balloon-related activities from 8-9am in our classrooms, which you are welcome to attend.

International day will be happening soon and we want to let you know that for 3rd Ukraine will be the country of study, and for 2nd grade will be Japan. We will be interchanging activities that tie-in with the other country to provide contrast and depth to our study, but 3rd grade will be formally representing Ukraine during International day, and 2nd grade will be representing Japan. We welcome resources from Ukraine and Japan to display in our classrooms if you wish to do so. We appreciate your help and support in this important date for our school.

With Maestra Brewer, 2nd and 3rd graders will be starting an art project for international day with origami and if you would like to chip in with this project, we need origami paper (different colors) fishing line, and toilet paper tubes. Visit the link to see a video of the project and how we hope for it to look at the end.

There are another couple of sites attached for the 3rd graders to learn their multiplication tables. Next week, look for 2nd graders backpacks as they might have English spelling words to study. With Maestra Brewer, both classes are going through the /k/ sound represented by the letters c and k, and the diagraph qu.

We also want to remind you about our safety policy when dropping off or picking up your student. If you enter the building, you need a visitor’s pass from the front office. We want to encourage our students to follow procedures and we ask for your support on this matter as your example is the best teaching model.

We will have a lock down drill Tuesday October 18th and for that, we need to pass a power point on how to follow procedures. If you wish for your student not to participate, let us know. The power point is available in the CIS website if you rather take a look at it beforehand to ensure it is appropriate for your student.

Dear Families,

It’s starting to cool off!  While any jacket can be worn outside, our uniform policy means that only CIS uniform sweatshirts can be worn inside.  We try to keep the temperature pleasant, but your student may still want to consider bringing a CIS sweatshirt or wearing a long sleeved shirt under their uniform.  For information about ordering uniform sweatshirts, please see corralesis.org.

We would like to thank MYP Student Isabel Lopez and her service dog, Chloe, for coming to talk to 2nd grade today.  Students learned a lot about how service animals help individuals in our communities, as well as how she trains her own service dog.  Thanks!

Thanks also to JJ Arnold for visiting our class to talk about his work as a firefighter, and how firefighters work to improve the lives of community members.  We enjoyed learning about your job, and learning what to do if there is a fire in our homes.

CD players or headphones wanted!  Mrs. Trail’s class has been lucky enough to acquire some books on CD, and we’d love to create a listening center!  If you have a CD player or basic headphones that aren’t being used at home, we’d be grateful of a loan or donation.  Please email Mrs. Trail at trailc@corralesis.orgThanks!

2nd Grade Show and Tell: Sharleene, LaShawntie, and Ayoka will be sharing (and teaching) us about something next Friday, September 23.  This week, we got to learn about some of the things a surgeon does (Cyrus), the parts of a violin and a demonstration (Fenn), and about firefighters (Ella).  Great job, kids!

Balloon Fiesta and CIS Balloon Day:  The cooler temperatures mean Balloon Fiesta is right around the corner!  Due to our proximity to Balloon Fiesta Park, traffic may affect your driving time/route.  CIS sent home special passes to each family this week (a neon green paper) to be displayed on your dash during the Balloon Fiesta, which will permit you to access the roads around the school should they be temporary closed to through-traffic.  If your family has not received one, please inquire at the front desk.

CIS Balloon Day will be on Wednesday, October 5th from 6:45am to 9:00am.  Join us in watching the morning ascension from the school grounds, and enjoy a burrito and cocoa!

I.B. Curriculum Family Night:  Please join us on Tuesday, October 4th from 5:30 to 6:30 to learn all about what the I.B. program will look like in your child’s classroom this year!  Maestras Brewer and Trail will present together (room 115 – Trail), and will hold 2 sessions – one from 5:30 to 5:55, and one from 6:00 to 6:25.

Spelling and Vocabulary:  We understand there is some confusion about quiz dates for Spanish and English words.  However, because spelling and vocabulary are integrated into our reading, writing, and IB, the quiz dates can vary.  Research suggests that teaching spelling in isolation is not an effective way of promoting vocabulary growth or even ensuring correct spelling will occur outside of the quiz.  In Spanish and English, vocabulary and spelling patterns will be practiced in class (during word study and reading), will be assessed via a traditional quiz, but will also be applied and assessed during the writing occurring throughout the week.  Only through application can we be sure that students understand (or don’t) a particular term or spelling pattern.

Although this is a lot more for parents and teachers to keep track of, this is a more effective way of providing spelling and vocabulary instruction.  It also supports reading comprehension and fluency in both languages.  We estimate children will take about 2 weeks to practice and demonstrate a grasp on those patterns.  Any Spanish words posted on the class site are still “active” – need to be studied.  They will be removed from the website and replaced when students demonstrate satisfactory skill.  Both grades will be studying the same pattern – /k/ – at different levels of complexity.  3rd grade has new words posted today.

English words will continue to be delivered via hardcopy in their backpacks. Students have individualized word lists, and are required to write the date of their quiz at the top of the page before they take them home for study.

Celebrate Mexican Independence:  In keeping with our central idea (The actions of individual citizens can improve our communities and promote rights around the world), students in Maestra Brewer’s class have been learning about Mexican Independence.  Students in 2nd and 3rd will be taking home a comprehension passage about Mexican Independence.  2nd should complete this activity with a parent.  We have also posted two videos about this holiday on our class google site, here!

6 Week Progress Reports:  Progress Reports for PYP will be going home on Monday, September 19th.  We are including your child’s Lexile level, as assessed by iStation (our short-cycle reading assessment).  We hope this information will help you and your child chose a book at their own independent reading level.  Scholastic has a helpful search function for looking for books by Lexile and genre.  Here.

Have a great weekend!

Dear Families,

Don’t forget Monday is Labor Day, and there will be no school.  Here’s a couple of notes for the week:

Attendance:  We have a rigorous curriculum at CIS, and it is very important that your child be on time in order to receive the best education possible.  This also means limiting the number of early check-outs throughout the year.  Administration has expressed concerns about the number of absences and tardies/early check-outs that have occurred already this year.  Please ensure that your child attends each full school day, and if illness or emergencies occur, you contact our school registrar as soon as possible.  Dawn Jackson, jacksond@corralesis.org

Spanish Readers:

Third grade received Spanish books today!  Please read with your student this weekend, and make sure your child has the book in their backpack Tuesday morning.

James and the Giant Peach:

We are reading this story as one of our read-alouds!  It turns out there will be a production called, ‘James and the Giant Peach, Jr.’ at the South Broadway Cultural Center from September 16-25.  One of our very own second graders will be starring as a seagull.  See if you can spot her!  Ticket info: www.southbroadwaytickets.com

Snacks:

If your child gets lethargic in the afternoon, please feel free to send an extra afternoon snack in their lunchbox or backpack.  We will make sure they have an opportunity to eat it.

Glasses:

Please make sure your student has their glasses at school every day.

Word Study and Vocabulary Lists:

Because we’re working to tie vocabulary and spelling more closely to the reading and writing done in our classrooms, vocabulary and spelling lists are taking a while to make their way home.  Some third graders have hard copies of their lists in English, and Maestra Brewer has now posted Spanish vocabulary for third grade on our class webpage (address at the bottom of the page).  Second grade will get their vocabulary lists next week.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
