PYP Peer Mediation Program Launch
Over the past month 10 students from 4th and 5th grade have undergone basic mediation training to begin our PYP Peer Mediation program. Under the leadership of our Student Facilitator, Jeff Newcomer Miller, these students have been taught skills in cooperation, active-listening, re-framing, and how to address kids in conflict.
During morning recess and lunch time two peer mediators will monitor any conflict and help kids through conflict transformation. The IB philosophy forms the foundation for this program as our peer mediators strive to be: Communicators, Principled, Caring, Risk-Takers and Balanced. The goal of the CIS peer mediation program is to empower our students to be mindful of their actions and how they affect other students, as well as giving them tools to solve their own disputes. Teachers will always be available to assist in this; however, one of the main goals is to enable the few conflicts that take place here at CIS to be transformed through peer mediators; additionally, we hope to model conflict transformation to all students.
An MYP Peer Mediation Program will be launched in the upcoming weeks. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact our Student Facilitator, Jeff Newcomer Miller (Millerj@corralesis.
