Important Update on Curse of the Bard Rehearsals

Due to the volleyball team making the championships (congratulations, ladies!!!), we need to change the schedule for rehearsals. The new dates and times are:

4/27- 6-9pm

4/28- 6-9pm

5/1- 6-9pm

5/2- 6-9pm

5/3- 1-4pm

5/4- during school day on field trip

5/5- students report to AAPC at 5pm

Please have your student look into carpooling with another student if transportation is an issue.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Below are updates on students’ learning and important due dates/project information for my performing arts classes.

Kinder– We have continued to explore body rhythm skills by learning a few new music games and we also learned about the life and music of Haydn.

1^st– We have continued to explore body rhythm skills by learning a few new music games and we also learned about the life and music of Haydn. We are also practicing “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” as well.

2^nd– We have learned three notes on the recorder and have continued to work on our rhythm note playing skills. Next week, we will begin to learn a multi-note song.

3^rd– Students have continued learning the xylophone. We learned “Happy Birthday” and “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” this week as well.

4^th– Students are working on their piano playing skills and are mastering leveled songs independently.

6^th – The next few weeks will be dedicated to having students rehearse for their Exhibition performances on May 10^th.

Below are updates on students’ learning and important due dates/project information for my performing arts classes.

Kinder– Students are continuing to learn a song about empathy. Yesterday, we learned the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” that introduces integrity.

1^st– Students are continuing to learn “Fifty, Nifty United States” to assist them in the How We Organize Ourselves unit. We have continued to explore Bach and his music.

2^nd– Students have reviewed pitch names and rhythm notes. We’re ready to begin the recorder unit. If students have their own recorders, they should bring them next week! I have recorders students can use (they will be cleaned at the beginning of each lesson).

3^rd– Students have continued learning the xylophone. We began learning “Ode to Joy” and will continue mastering this song next week.

4^th– Performances are done. We had an amazing collaborative lesson with Ms. Laurie this week as well.

5^th– We reviewed pitch names for the Bass Clef. We will continue preparation for the piano unit next week. We had an amazing collaborative lesson with Ms. Laurie this week as well.

6^th – Students have rehearsed for their practice performance that will occur on April 10^th. As a class, students created a peer critique form they use to evaluate others’ performances.

Below are updates on students’ learning and important due dates/project information for my performing arts classes.

Kinder– Students are learning solfege techniques and continuing to learn their empathy song. We visited science fair projects yesterday to show our support as school community members.

1^st– Students are learning solfege techniques. Students are learning two new songs “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” and “Fifty, Nifty United States” to assist them in the How We Organize Ourselves unit. We visited science fair projects yesterday to show our support as school community member

2^nd– Students have been working on percussion accompanying the song, “Ich Bin Ein Gummi Bear”. I have recordings, if you want them please send a flash drive with your student! We also started making maracas! Students will finish them with Ms. Laurie after spring break.

Towards the end of March, we will begin a recorder unit. I have recorders students can use (they will be cleaned at the beginning of each lesson). However, students can bring their own recorders as well.

3^rd– We’ve finished analyzing music genres. We began preparing for our xylophone unit yesterday by reviewing how to read rhythm notes.

4^th– Because of scheduling, were not able to finish their songs. We will perform after spring break.

5^th– We finished performances and watched each other’s performances this week.

6^th – Due to testing, we were not able to have a full music lesson. We did begin to discuss what goes into having a great performance.

7^th– This week we continued to rehearse the play. Students need to have their lines memorized by April 5^th for a memorization assessment.

Kinder– Students began watching The Sound of Music. I will be using this movie to illustrate the connections between music and movement and to introduce sol fedge pitch sight reading technique.
1^st– Students began watching The Sound of Music. I will be using this movie to illustrate the connections between music and movement and to introduce sol fedge pitch sight reading technique.
2^nd– Students did an amazing job at their performance on Tuesday! We are going to begin learning how found items can make music and will be creating our own maracas made from mostly recycled materials. For this activity I need the cardboard from toilet paper rolls. Please send them with your students!

2^nd– Students are preparing for their performance of the official cowboy song of New Mexico, “Under New Mexico Skies”.We will have an in class performance on 2/14 at 1:15. You are all invited to attend!
Towards the end of March, we will begin a recorder unit. I have recorders students can use (they will be cleaned at the beginning of each lesson). However, students can bring their own recorders as well.

1^st– Students have explored ways to describe songs and have continued practicing sight reading skills.
We will be making autobiographical drums. Students need to have an item that can be used as a drum as soon as possible. I have some extra, but not enough for everyone.
2^nd– Students are learning the official cowboy song of New Mexico, “Under New Mexico Skies”. Later we will be developing choreography for the song as well. Students have continued to sight read rhythm notes.

Kinder– Students are building their rhythm skills by responding to music calls and practicing keeping the beat and exploring different instruments. Students have also begun to learn about the IB Attitudes.
1^st– Students are building rhythm sight reading skills by learning to read rhythm notation. They have made a ton of progress!
We will be making autobiographical drums on Tuesday, January 24^th. Please keep food containers that can be used as a drum. Large cardboard oatmeal containers are preferred, it’s easier to attach decorations to them. Students need a container this Tuesday!
2^nd– Students are learning the official cowboy song of New Mexico, “Under New Mexico Skies”. Later we will be developing choreography for the song as well. Students have also begun to sight read rhythm notes and have identified common traits of music, art, and dance.
We will have an in class performance on 2/14 at 1:15. You are all invited to attend!

9-12^th – We will choose the spring musical as a class tomorrow. The spring musical will take place on either May 4^th or 5^th. This performance is mandatory for all students in the class. Please see the syllabus sent out at the beginning of the year. We will do our best to work with students’ after school schedules. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be sent out soon along with audition information.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Below are updates on students’ learning and important due dates/project information for my performing arts classes.
For all parents!!! The holiday musical will be held on Wednesday, December 14th. I will have two shows. One at 6:00 and one at 7:00. Entry fees are $5 for adults and kids are free. Attached is a list of all performing arts students and which show they are assigned to. 7^th-10^th grade students are required to do both shows. For the musical, students need to wear plaid. Any color is fine and any style is fine (just no pajamas). Students can also wear holiday accessories for any winter holiday as long as it does not cover their face.
For speaking cast parents!!! Monday and Tuesday’s rehearsals will go until 5pm!
Kinder– Students are learning their song for the musical and choreography. We have also learned songs about responsibility.

We will be making autobiographical drums soon. Please keep food containers that can be used as a drum. Large cardboard oatmeal containers are preferred, it’s easier to attach decorations to them.

For all parents!!! International Day is next Saturday!!! The performance schedule is below. Please make sure that your student is in the prep room at the assigned time and has the basic costume attire on that day.
2:00– Kinder Performance (Prep in kinder room 1:40, need to be dressed in nice clothing)
2:10– 1st grade Performance (Prep in 1st grade room 1:50, boys need white button up shirt and khakis, girls need long dress or skirt with plain top with sleeves preferably white)
2:20– 2nd grade Performance (Prep in Mrs. Brewer’s room 2:00, need to wear black pants and a white undershirt (muscle shirt or tank top))
2:30– MYP Performances (Prep in Mrs. Robert’s room 2:10, students need to wear red tops and black pants/skirts, the yellow vest they have made, and $3 to pay for their vest)

Rehearsals for speaking roles will begin on the 28^thand will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school until the show.

3) the cost of the shirts is roughly $7.00 each plus 6.5% tax. We will be purchasing the shirts. We will not be adding anything permanent, so the shirts are able to be worn after the International Day demonstration.
4) please put your daughter’s hair in a high bun. We will be giving them red hair sticks to criss-cross in the hair bun.
5) the cost of the ribbon, trim, and sashes is around $1.00 per child.
6) please can each parent contribute $8.50 EACH CHILD to the costumes to reimburse Laura (Emily’s mom) and I? Before International day would be best.
7) we will be making the boys a traditional hat to wear, but will need large sheets of either black or tan construction paper. The bigger the better. We will cut these into circles to make the hats.

We will be paying for all three dinners. Students need money for three lunches and snacks. Breakfast is free.

9-12th Drama Parents Only-Important Trip Info
Please read the following:
State Drama will take place in Las Cruces from 10/20-10/23. We will be staying at the Econo Lodge (2585 S Valley Dr, Las Cruces,NM 88005, (575) 527-2000)
We are in need of parent drivers and chaperones!!! If you come as a chaperone who drives students, your room can be reimbursed. We have reserved four rooms for parent drivers/chaperones.
Cost per student will be $150 for hotel, gas, and two meals. This is due on 10/12/16 if it is not covered by enchilada sales. Students will need to carry money for four lunches, one dinner, and snacks. The hotel has a free continental breakfast.
Additionally, there is a $30 competition fee that needs to be given to us ASAP.
We need parent volunteers to be team captains for a group of 5-6 students on 10/13/16 to make the enchiladas. We have five so far, but need two more.

State Drama will take place in Las Cruces from 10/20-10/23. We will be staying at the Econo Lodge (2585 S Valley Dr, Las Cruces,NM 88005, (575) 527-2000)
We are in need of parent drivers and chaperones!!! If you come as a chaperone who drives students, your room can be reimbursed. We have reserved four rooms for parent drivers/chaperones.
Cost per student will be $150 for hotel, gas, and two meals. This is due on 10/12/16 if it is not covered by enchilada sales. Students will need to carry money for four lunches, one dinner, and snacks. The hotel has a free continental breakfast.
Additionally, there is a $30 competition fee that needs to be given to us ASAP.
We need parent volunteers to be team captains for a group of 5-6 students on 10/13/16 to make the enchiladas. We have five so far, but need two more.
Fundraiser money is due 10/5/16.
