Suggestions from the May 2, 2013 Gifted Parent Meeting

More consistent/regular pullout (It was noted that this has been accomplished this school year).
More developed in-class differentiation
Options for differentiation in Spanish for upper PYP grades that get less Spanish than the lower PYP
Curricular and extra-curricular options that allow for mixed age peer collaborations

The Advisory Committee shall:

a) regularly review the goals and priorities of the gifted program, including the operational plans for student identification, evaluation, placement and service delivery;

                1.”Develop a formal policy for ID, Evaluation, placement and services for gifted students for our school based on our current resources.”

b) demonstrate support for the gifted program;

Suggestions from the February 2014 GAC meeting

        1. “Students have expressed that they want gifted to be a time to move ahead in math, doing algebra (PYP) and learning the methods of algebra.”
        2.  “Students feel they get plenty of worksheets in regular classroom—they want to try new, challenging interactive math with instruction from the teacher.”
        3.  “Help us work together so the parents can help expand the gifted program and bring in new opportunities”
        4.  “Hold parent conferences during other conference sessions to increase parent interaction”
        5.  “Establish a classroom/space in the new facility that will promote enrichment.”
        6.  “Help develop student internships to expose children to different careers and opportunities.”
        7.  “Publish the Gifted Unit Plans/focus of each grade—allow parents to engage and contribute.”
        8.  “Sponsor field trips and programs for gifted kids to further expand their exposure to new ideas/skills.”
        9.  “The website is a good start.  Maybe create a weekly newsletter to let us know what happened that week (sorry, I know you already have many responsibilities).”
       10. “Teacher training on inquiry based approaches to differentiation as well as on the socio-emotional needs of the gifted students.”
       11. “Invite speakers that inform and or inspire faculty and parents.”
       12.  “More hands-on, interactive in-class differentiation opportunities”
       13. “Technology stations in the classroom for student research”

c) provide information regarding the impact that cultural background, linguistic background, socioeconomic status and disability conditions within the community may have on the child referral, identification, evaluation and service delivery processes

d) advocate for children who have been under-represented in gifted services due to cultural or linguistic background, socioeconomic status, or disability conditions, in order to ensure that these children have equal opportunities to benefit from services for gifted students; and,

e) meet three or more times per year at regular intervals.
