Corrales International School Governing Board

Meet the GB Members

Bruce Hegwer, Ed.D
I have spent over 40 years in Education in New Mexico as a teacher, principal, superintendent, regional education service center director and head of the NM State Charter School Association.  I have also served as an adjunct professor, education consultant, and School Board/Governing Council trainer.  I have a bachelor’s degree in business and a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Education Administration. I have been a CIS Governing Board member since January 2024, and I am currently the Chair of the CIS Governing Board team.

John Roumpf
John’s family moved to Albuquerque from Nebraska shortly before he was born, making him their first native New Mexican. He is a battalion chief with Albuquerque Fire Rescue and has served the citizens of Albuquerque for 27 years. He was raised in the North Valley, graduated from Valley High School, and earned his BS degree in Biology and Chemistry at the University of New Mexico. John is married to Rae Neva Roumpf and they have two boys, Gus and Jack, who both attend our school. He is passionate about carpentry and enjoys spending time mountain biking the foothills and Paddleboarding the Rio Grande.

Sheley Wimmer
Sheley Wimmer graduated with a degree in Instrumentation and Control Technology in 1987. She began teaching electronics and digital design at the collegiate level before joining Sandia National Laboratories’ PBFA-II as a level three diagnostic technician, specializing in fusion and pulse-power technologies—think “mother machine” to CERN. Her professional background includes computer programming, technical writing, robotics, fiber optics, digital design, photography, laser technology, construction, blueprinting, and adult education. Sheley founded a private school accredited by the New Mexico Department of Education, where she dedicated twelve years to educating “at-risk” students from kindergarten through ninth grade. Following this, she spent a decade at Corrales International School as the MYP Coordinator, Student Program Coordinator, and MYP technology instructor. She was responsible for staff training, student assessment, grant writing, and PLTW Biomedical Sciences programming. She also implemented the Leaders in Training Program and Disney Academy, fostering strong community leadership among students. Having recently retired after thirty-plus years in education, Sheley continues to contribute to the field by serving on the school board of Corrales International School for four years. Married to the same awesome guy for forty-two years, she is a proud grandmother of six, an avid world traveler, and a published young adult author and motivational speaker under the pen name Sheley Rayne (Sheleyrayne.com).

Lily Perez
My name is Lily Perez and though I was born in California, I consider myself a New Mexican since my family moved here when I was less than a year old. I graduated from UNM with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting, which helped me gain my Certified Public Accountant’s license. After working in public accounting for a couple of years, I moved to a private company, where I have been specializing in North American transaction taxes since 2015, think sales tax at the bottom of a receipt. My love of accounting and teaching has inspired me to serve on a charter school governing board. While in public accounting, I was exposed to charter school accounting, which has helped me in my duties as the Governing Board Treasurer and on the CIS finance and audit committees.

Angela Godinez
Angela Godinez, while not technically born in New Mexico, considers herself a native, as her family relocated when she was under a year old to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Here she was raised and later graduated from Rio Rancho High School. Upon graduating from high school, Angela moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to attend New Mexico State University where she earned her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Thereafter, she returned to her hometown of Rio Rancho and has continued to serve her surrounding community as a Registered Nurse.
From an early age, Angela has been drawn to the loving strength that comes from human connection. Whether it be volunteering within her church community as a Lector, Usher, and Youth Group Leader throughout her younger education years or holding the Treasurer position for the NMSU Student Nurses Association. Since graduating from university, her commitments have been dedicated to her close communities. She strives to make a positive daily impact within her family as a mother of three children. Her oldest was the first to attend CIS with the younger siblings eager to follow suit.
Angela was elected to the board of the CIS Governing Board in 2024. She is excited to support the direction of the school through this role to not only maintain its distinguished reputation but to also encourage growth and development in years to come. She firmly believes that the children and families here at CIS deserve a dedicated Governing Board and is fully committed to its success.
