MYP Course Outline and Syllabus 2023-24
AN OVERVIEW OF EACH OF OUR MYP CLASSES 7th-10th Grade
7th grade Art Appreciation/2D- This course is designed to introduce aspects of Art History, Elements of art and Principles of design in a creative way. We will learn drawing basics, perspective, Contour drawings and Tessellations to name a few. The IB Process journal will be used in planning, brainstorming, monthly art prompts and reflective assessment.
8th Grade Art -Process 2D to 3D In this course we will use a variety of materials to create 3 dimensional works of art. We will explore various forms of Sculpture, their artists, the orginal purpose and place to inspire our our own final pieces of work. A few projects to highlight our the POP Art Donuts and the sewing “ugly dolls’’ final project. We will use our IB process journal to respond to monthly prompts, take notes and sketch ideas creating artwork through reflections and artists statements.
In this 9/10 combo class students use previous art experience to further develop their personal style. We will delve into a variety of different medias which may include painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. Assignments are given and designed to encourage individual creativity and allow for various levels of experience. Students are required to check in throughout their creative process and will document their progress through their IB process journal. We will frequently practice reflecting on our own work and learning how to critique work of art.
GRADING- IB Visual Arts Criterion: Investigating , Developing, Creating/Performing and Evaluating. Each Project will have a skill specific rubric assigned.
In this course your grade is comprised of Projects, prompts, notes, reflections, and class participation. Class Participation-Enter this room with an open mind and BE RESPECTFUL. That means to the room, the rules, procedures, materials and other people. This is a place for positive attitudes, you will be responsible and accountable for your actions in the room and art work produced. Participate fully and demonstrate personal engagement/ thinking creatively through out the course You will receive a daily grade up to 10 pts for Effort and Performance in addition to assignment grades.
If there is a missing assignment it will appear as a zero until it is turned in and graded. I will deduct 10 points for late work. There will be no surprise when something is due. It is your responsibility to communicate any personal issues or circumstances that would keep you from turning in assignments/projects or missing a class. I am more than happy to work with you. PROCESS JOURNAL- Students MUST have a process journal ( wire bound sketchbook) in each art class. We will document our ideas, notes, preliminary sketches, homework and reflections in the process journal. It is graded frequently and you must have it with you each class.
